Vision Services is offered to individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Each individual is assessed to determine if he/she can benefit from magnification and/or voice over technology. After evaluation, several options are determine to assist at work or home. Once the technology is selected, individual and group training on the equipment is offered.

Assistive Technology devices may include:

  • Use of magnification and talking technology
  • Low Vision Kitchen aids
  • Cell phones Computers
  • Glasses with facial recognition features

Low Vision Services are also offered to individuals who have a partial loss of sight when traditional glasses, medication and surgery can’t correct the loss. Many times people deal with a loss of peripheral vision and have extreme difficulty with visual clarity, lighting and glare. Additional services include:

Adjustment to Blindness - Group support where all participants have vision loss and share struggles and successes each Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Adaptive Computer Training - Whether using magnification, voice over or a combination of adaptive computer software, Signal Centers offers individual and group training. Currently our JAWS training (Job Access With Speech) is from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

Tactile Art - Every Thursday morning from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. we have Art at Hart for clients with vision loss at Hart Gallery located at 110 E. Main Street, Chattanooga, TN 37408. Confident Living Classes - These classes are designed to help those with vision loss remain engaged in the community and live independently in their own home. We offer a variety of skills which empower participants to overcome daily struggles they faced due to vision loss. Our Confident Living Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 - 3:30 at 2300 Bailey Avenue.

Mobility - Orientation & Mobility Training taught by COMS certified O&M Specialist Katherine Salmon.
