Vision Services is offered to individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Each individual is assessed to determine if he/she can benefit from magnification and/or voice over technology. After evaluation, several options are determine to assist at work or home. Once the technology is selected, individual and group training on the equipment is offered.
Assistive Technology devices may include:
- Use of magnification and talking technology
- Low vision kitchen aids
- Cell phones and computers
- Glasses with facial recognition features
Low Vision Services are also offered to individuals who have a partial loss of sight when traditional glasses, medication and surgery can’t correct the loss. Many times people deal with a loss of peripheral vision and have extreme difficulty with visual clarity, lighting and glare.
Adjustment to Blindness: Group support where all participants have vision loss and share struggles and successes. This group is led by Lana Little and Terri Rice, masters level counselors, certified rehabilitation counselors as well as certified deaf and blind specialist (Lana Little) and vision specialist (Terri Rice).
Adaptive Computer Training: Whether using magnification, voice over, or a combination of adaptive computer software, Signal Centers offers individual and group JAWS (Job Access With Speech) training.
Advocacy and Interviewing Skills: Class specific for those with low vision looking for employment.
Apps Class: Introduction to Apple apps available for those with vision loss.
Tactile Art: Art at Hart for clients with vision loss at Hart Gallery located at 110 E. Main Street, Chattanooga, TN 37408. Call Brooke for reservations at 421-521-4707. Once a month we also have tactile art at our main campus located at 109 N. Germantown Road.
Confident Living Classes: These classes are designed to help those with vision loss remain engaged in the community and live independently in their own home. We offer a variety of skills which empower participants to overcome daily struggles they faced due to vision loss. Classes include:
- Cooking without Looking
- Dining Skills/ Locating Techniques
- Independent Living Skills
