Stabilizing families in need


Work Ready provides individuals eligible for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families a track towards permanent employment. While enrolled in postsecondary coursework, participants in this Signal Centers program are lined up with a paid internship.

Work Ready

Program Information

College Coursework

Work Ready partners with Chattanooga State Community College to offer satellite classes in Early Childhood at the Work Ready offices. Interns will complete the following courses, which take approximately seven weeks each to complete:

  • Intro into Early Childhood Education
  • Safe, Healthy Learning Environments
  • Family Dynamics
  • Curriculum

Prior to starting classes, our case managers will walk interns through the financial aid process at Chatt State, helping them to complete paperwork and file their applications. Those who are ineligible for financial aid will be directed to the Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance (TECTA), a community partner who covers tuition costs for those interested in the early childhood field.

Interns who have child care placements and have completed at least two of the above classes will be eligible for additional financial incentives through Child Care WAGE$® Tennessee.

Meet our team

Director
Joyce Jackson

Joyce Jackson is the Director of Signal Centers� Work Ready Program, where she has served for six years. She holds bachelor�s and master�s degrees in psychology from Georgia College and State University in her hometown of Milledgeville, Georgia. Her career spans more than 30 years in developmental disabilities, behavioral health, juvenile justice, and workforce services, including two decades at Central State Hospital and nine years as Senior Project Manager for the Tennessee TANF program with MAXIMUS. Before leading Work Ready, she served as Deputy Director of Family Forward at Signal Centers.

Employment and Internship Coordinator
Katelyn Payne

Katelyn Payne is an Employment and Internship Coordinator with a strong background in education and social sciences.�She holds an associate's degree in special education (K�12) and a bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.�Katelyn is also currently working towards her master's degree in business administration with a focus in non-profit managemnt.With over three years of experience as a childcare worker, Katelyn developed a deep commitment to supporting individual growth and�child development. In her current role, she is passionate about helping people discover meaningful career paths, grow personally and professionally, and connect with opportunities that empower both individuals and the families they support.

Training and Education Coordinator
Frank Nappi

Frank S. Nappi is an experienced education professional with two decades of expertise in implementing quality training programs. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emerson College and is Youth Program Quality certified. Frank has a proven track record of designing and delivering impactful education initiatives, from connecting under-resourced communities with transformative arts classes to providing essential career counseling and fostering growth through opportunities in higher education. His work consistently empowers individuals and strengthens communities by ensuring access to high-quality learning opportunities.

Administrative Assistant
Alyssa Lopez

Alyssa Lopez is the Administrative Assistant Program Specialist, supporting the Work Ready team with administrative duties while also conducting and managing client referrals and eligibility screenings. She holds a degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, which strengthens her collaborative spirit, organizational skills, and warm, people-focused approach. In her current role, Alyssa finds great fulfillment in being part of each client�s journey from the very first screening and takes pride in seeing them grow more successful and confident throughout their time in the program.
